How to Get Up After Falling on Telemark Skis

Every person learning how to ski eventually falls. To continue skiing after a fall, it's important to learn how to stand up on your own power.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ski Clothing
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
  1. Step 1

    Untangle any arms or legs that have gotten crossed.

  2. Step 2

    Rotate your body so that your head is uphill and your skis are downhill.

  3. Step 3

    Face skis across the slope so that they are pointing neither uphill or downhill.

  4. Step 4

    Place your hips above your heels while on the ground. This can be done by bending your knees, tucking your feet into your body and leaning forward.

  5. Step 5

    Plant a pole on either side of your body.

  6. Step 6

    Push down on both poles.

  7. Step 7

    Push up with your legs.

  8. Step 8

    Stand up using the poles to maintain balance.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have fallen on a steep slope, try planting both poles on the uphill side and leaning into the hill while standing up.
  • When skiing without poles, place both hands on one side and use them to push up.
