Instructions

    • 1

Find a slope to ski that's covered in fresh snow. This is perhaps the hardest step to perform, depending on where you ski.

    • 2

Cinch up all your clothes so that a powder stash doesn't end up down your neck or up your pants.

    • 3

Glide straight downhill, maintaining equal weight on both feet.

    • 4

Flex ankles, knees and waist down toward the snow. The deeper the snow, the more you'll need to exaggerate this motion.

    • 5

Plant a ski pole down and in front of your body.

    • 6

Slide your uphill foot backward and your lead foot forward, keeping your body weight evenly distributed between both feet.

    • 7

Face your upper body downhill and keep it that way the entire time you ski.

    • 8

      Steer the skis and turn.

    • 9

Extend your body upward after completing the turn.

    • 10

      Face your skis downhill again.

    • 11

Switch lead feet and repeat, going in the opposite direction.

Tips & Warnings

  • Think of bouncing through the powder while flexing and extending.

  • Aggressively planting poles down the slope and in front of you sets up the turn and keeps your upper body facing downhill.

  • Telemark skiing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
