Instructions

    • 1

Determine the number of people who will be participating in your Kwanzaa celebration.

    • 2

Ask each person to bring several of their favorite family recipes with them to the first night's event.

    • 3

After the Kwanzaa ceremony, provide each person with several 5x7 index cards and a thin-tipped black marker.

    • 4

Ask guests to write down their recipes on the cards.

    • 5

Invite the children to participate by having them decorate 5x7 cards with red, green and black markers or crayons, Kwanzaa stickers, glue glitter, ribbons and other items.

    • 6

Gather the cards and punch two holes at the top of each card. (Make sure the holes are located in the same position on each card.)

    • 7

Organize the recipes. Use the cards decorated by the children as a cover and as category dividers, if desired.

    • 8

Bind the cards together with ribbon or with single binding rings sold at office supply stores.

    • 9

Add recipes to the book each year during Kwanzaa.

    • 10

Take good care of the cookbook so it may be passed down from generation to generation.

Tips & Warnings

  • This project is especially well suited for the first day of Kwanzaa, which celebrates the principle of Umoja, or unity.
