Show your lone star pride by trimmin' your Christmas tree Texas-style.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Buy a big, Texas-size Christmas tree.

  2. Step 2

Hang strands of multicolored pepper lights, or use red, white and blue minibulb strands of lights.

  3. Step 3

Cut red, white and blue bandannas into quarters. Roll up the pieces and tie the miniature bandannas around the ends of branches.

  4. Step 4

Shape thin rope into little lassos or other arrangements, and use a glue gun to secure. Hang the miniature ropes as ornaments.

  5. Step 5

Buy flashy gold or silver star ornaments and hang on the tree.

  6. Step 6

Wrap the tree with red, white or blue shiny garlands.

  7. Step 7

Decorate with Texas ornaments ' state shapes, cowboys, longhorns, cows, armadillos, blue bonnets, yellow roses and lone-star flags (which may be purchased from a specialty store such as Noel Christmas Store or Guitars & Cadillacs).

  8. Step 8

Use ornaments that cheer on the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas North Stars, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and other professional teams for the sports fan in your house. Or, use ornaments that honor Texas colleges, such as Texas A&M, University of Texas, Baylor and Southern Methodist University.

  9. Step 9

Drape a Texas state flag around the base of the tree to form a tree skirt.

  10. Step 10

Top your tree with a lone star, or wrap white lights around a cowboy hat and use it as your tree topper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rather than tying little bandannas around the tree, tie the pieces together, alternating the red, white and blue pieces, to create a bandanna garland.
  • Another garland idea is to take silk yellow roses or blue bonnets (the Texas state flower) and use florist wire to hook together and form floral strands.

on 11/13/2006 Tree Skirt- I agree about not using our Flag on the ground. I found some Texas print material to make a cute tree skirt on our Texas Christmas Tree. We also found red peppers covers for our white lights. We found quite a selection of Texas ornaments and Red and Blue glass ornaments. We added small Texas flags on each side of our Lone Star to top the tree. We added some silk yellow roses and blue bonnets.

on 1/18/2006 Never drop the Flag of the Republic on the ground. It is a very offensive thing to do. I would suggest a denim tree skirt in it's place, or put some boots under the tree instead.
