How to Assemble a Scooter


Sometimes, you can save five to ten dollars by putting your new scooter together at home instead of having the store do it for you.

Things You'll Need

  • Scooter Carry Straps
  • Rags
  • Bike Grease
  • Bike Helmets
  • Electric Motorized Scooters
  • Gas Motorized Scooters
  • Kick Scooters
  • Scooter Carry Bags
  • Combination Wrench Sets
  • Read the entire instructions provided by the manufacturer before starting to assemble the scooter.

  • Check the size of the tools needed for the nuts and bolts such as metric or US before you begin.

  • Use a good gear grease and have lots of shop rags or paper towels close by to keep your hands clean.

  • Lay out the larger pieces by steps - such as the footboard, handle bar, and wheels.

  • Keep the gear section and its bolts all together and to one side of your work area.

  • Place the nuts and bolts for the assembly of the larger pieces next to your tools, within easy reach.

  • Place the handle bar in position and bolt into place according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Assemble the wheels and axles if needed.

  • Bolt the axle into the base of scooter at the specified location.

  • Assemble the gears and brakes.

  • Affix the gear and brake box to the handle bars and to the base according to the diagram provided by the company.

  • Test the gears and brakes for tension and adjust if needed.

  • Grease any joints.

  • Attach any stickers or decals provided.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your scooter is motorized, you will need to mount the motor according to the instructions provided and service the motor as instructed.
  • Always test the brakes and gears before allowing your child to ride the scooter.
  • Periodically, check the axles for grease, the tension on the brake and the gears to correct any problems.
