Combine the forward approach with the back flip spin for a floating alley-oop style flip that's both graceful and fun.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin the reverse flip like a forward dive, with a balanced forward approach.

  2. Step 2

Swing your arms up in front of you and above your head as you leave the board, while tilting your head back at the same time.

  3. Step 3

Lift your chest up to follow the direction of your head and arms and begin your backward rotation.

  4. Step 4

Tuck your knees to your chest and drop your arms down to grasp around your shins. Pull in to tighten your legs against your chest.

  5. Step 5

Release from the tuck after a three-quarter rotation.

  6. Step 6

Extend your legs and enter the water feet first with your toes pointed and your arms against your sides.

Tips & Warnings
  • After mastering the single reverse flip, try a one-and-a-half reverse flip. It's not much more difficult, provided you tuck tightly to get the extra rotation.
  • Do not begin rotation before you leave the board. Beginning early on this dive can negate your forward momentum and land you on the springboard.
  • Attempt the reverse flip only after you have mastered the forward flip and back flip and only under the supervision of a skilled diving instructor.
  • Springboard diving is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 8/8/2006 Before leaving the springboard, watch the water where you're going to break its surface. Do not look at the sky or you will land on the springboard.
