How to Format Rows and Columns in Excel

Creating labels for your rows and columns makes your spreadsheet easier to read. These steps work with Microsoft Excel 97.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Start Microsoft Excel and open the file you want to change.

  2. Step 2

    Drag to highlight the cells you want to format.

  3. Step 3

    Open the Format menu and select Cells.

  4. Step 4

    Select the Font tab.

  5. Step 5

    Select the font type from the Font list.

  6. Step 6

    Select the font style from the Font Style list.

  7. Step 7

    Select the font size from the Size list.

  8. Step 8

    Select OK to accept the changes.

Tips & Warnings
  • To undo your changes, open the Edit menu and select Undo Format.
  • Use the Format Cells dialog box to add other formats to your cells.
