Things You'll Need:
- Basketball
- Basketball Hoop
-
Step 1
Stand with your feet square to the basket.. The foot that corresponds to your shooting hand should be slightly ahead of the other. For example, if you're right-handed, your right foot should be ahead of your left foot.
-
Step 2
Place the ball in your shooting hand with your fingers spread wide and pointing up. Effective shooting depends on using one hand only. As you prepare to shoot, rest your nonshooting hand lightly against the ball to balance it. Do not move this hand when you shoot the ball.
-
Step 3
Place the elbow of your shooting arm directly below your hand, not off to one side.
-
Step 4
Bend your shooting arm slightly, but do not bring the ball all the way back to your shoulder. The angle of your elbow bend should be greater than 90 degrees.
-
Step 5
Bend both knees as you prepare to shoot. Send the ball in a high arc toward the basket. Aim for a spot on the backboard just over the rim. Your knees and your shooting arm should reach full extension at the same time. Do not jump off the ground as you shoot.
-
Step 6
Follow through with your arm motion. Push the ball off your hand so that it spins backward as it travels toward the basket. This backspin will give the ball a soft bounce as it comes off the backboard.
-
Step 7
Your goal is to achieve the exact same shot every time

on 7/12/2006 When you shoot a free throw, you need to have your shooting foot on the tiny, yet visible, nail hole in the floor. Bend your knees and shoot. Remember: Elbow up, thumb down.
