    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Fencing Gear
      • 1

Get on the Internet and go to the United States Fencing Association (USFA) home page (usfencing.org).

      • 2

Go to the menu on the left of the USFA site and click on "New to Fencing?"

      • 3

Click on "Where can I fence?" on the submenu that appears.

      • 4

Look for your state on the map and click on it.

      • 5

Ignore "section" and "division" links, but try to determine from the map of your state (if one appears) what division you live in.

      • 6

Open links to schools or clubs in your division, or call the contact telephone numbers listed.

      • 7

Write to the contact person at the address given if no telephone number is listed.

      • 8

Search the Internet using search engines to find a place to fence if none can be found at the USFA home page, using key words such as "fencing," "foil," "saber," "epeé," "fencing instruction" or "fencing lessons."

      • 9

Post a request for information on a club in your area with the Internet newsgroup, "rec.sport.fencing." See "How to Read a Newsgroup on the Internet" under Related eHows.

      • 10

Look under "Fencing" in the yellow pages of your local telephone directory if your Internet searches are unsuccessful.

      • 11

Call a fencing supply company near you and ask them whether they know of any place near your location where people fence.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Not all fencing schools and clubs belong to the USFA. If you can't find a place to fence in your area, use the information from your searches to contact clubs nearest you and ask whether they know of any schools or clubs in your locale.

    • Fencing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
