Step 1
Consider what accessories your cyclist doesn't have or needs to replace.
-
Step 2
Think in terms of packages of things that can be useful: water bottle and cage, bike flat kit, rain gear, headlight packages, gloves, helmets, rack and packs. Some of the accessories come in a wide range of styles and colors.
-
Step 3
Look into items that would make good additions to the bike as well: a new saddle, fenders, handlebar extensions, shocks, slick tires for road biking. If you're adding to the bike, be sure that the components you're buying will fit the style and size of the bike your cyclist owns.
-
Step 4
Use your imagination when putting the package together. Find cycling magazines to use as wrapping paper, or surprise your cyclist by getting her bike outfitted at the shop without her knowing.
-
Step 5
Consider using one of the accessories as a gift basket. For instance, put a bunch of smaller items in a helmet, in a bike bag or in a pair of gloves. If you do use an actual basket, arrange the items like a bouquet.

on 11/22/2005 Always consider chain lubricant as a gift. Most mountain bike riders don't lubricate their chain often enough. Be sure to get a lube that matches their type of riding.
