How to Pack for a Trip to Dallas

Clothes are colorful, hair is coiffed and sideburns are trimmed. When venturing deep into the heart of Texas, keep your clothes casual, yet coordinated.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Carry-on Bags
  • Garment Bags
  • Luggage Sets
  • Travel Clothes
  • Backpacks
  • Duffel Bags

Step1
Check the weather for your intended dates of travel. Summers can be scorching, while winters are cold but bearable.
Step2
Pack business attire appropriate to your line of work. Choose lightweight materials for the summer months. Women wear hose with suits year-round.
Step3
Think casual for taking in the sights and sounds of the city. Jeans and khakis are appropriate for winter; longer shorts and knee-length skirts for women befit the summer months. T-shirts and fine-gauge sweaters are a staple.
Step4
Pack a winter coat, sweaters, boots, gloves and a scarf if you plan to be in Dallas between December and March.
Step5
Choose lightweight fabrics such as cotton and linen for summer visits, as these natural fibers will breathe in the heat. Pair summer attire with comfortable walking shoes or sandals.
Step6
Bring semiformal clothes for a benefit or show. Dallas' glitzy style comes alive for such occasions.
Step7
Remember that black will hide dirt and absorb heat, while white and ivory will betray dirt but keep you cool. Also, bright colors abound in Dallas attire, while black is often considered morbid.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bring a carry-on bag that includes everything you might need in case your luggage goes astray: a change of clothes, all medications, spare contact lenses or glasses, all forms of money and any important documents.
  • Pack to accommodate your needs. Leave superfluous items at home.
  • Always pack suits in a garment bag to avoid excess wrinkles and misshapen garments after your flight.

on 8/29/2006 In Dallas, you are more likely to see women dressing in cute skirts and flirty dresses than you might see in northern cities. You'll also see more costume jewelry worn. Perhaps it's just an artifact of southern culture from a different era. Ladies, take your visit as an opportunity to dress a little more femininely than you might ordinarily do and have fun!

on 8/8/2006 *No cowboy stuff.
*Don't wear black - it's too hot.
*If you're a teen, dress like you always do.
*Year round casual is jeans or khakis and a baggy tee.
*Don't say anything bad about the Dallas Cowboys or Texas A&M.
*Don't say "howdie" or "Ya'll"!

on 11/22/2005 Also, don't forget that it can be pretty wet here from April-June. Our rainy season is just that, RAINY! So be prepared for the weather to change at a moments notice. In the morning it could be hot and sunny and that evening could be cold and windy. So pack for all weather types!

on 11/22/2005 If you're coming here (to Dallas) keep a couple of things in mind:
*DFW Int'l airport is AWFUL on checked luggage, carry as little as possible, and if you can avoid checking anything, I would suggest you don't.
*"Hot" doesn't even BEGIN to describe our March-September weather, wear breezy, thin clothing and a mister is never a bad idea down here.
*We have great parks, etc in Texas, but the ground is hard and rocky (and flat) wear GOOD shoes and watch your step.
*If you're coming in the winter (don't worry, it's just a 1-2 month time for us), keep in mind that we don't get snow, so if any precipitation is coming, it'll be a slushy icy mess.
