Step 1
Check the weather for your intended dates of travel. Although Boston is casually known as having no weather rules, winters are traditionally cold and summers hot and humid. Rain is a perpetual threat.
-
Step 2
Pack business attire appropriate to your line of work. Choose lighter-weight materials for the summer months. Women wear hose with suits - despite the summer heat - and tights for warmth in the winter.
-
Step 3
Think casual for taking in the sights and sounds of the city. Jeans and khakis are appropriate for winter; walking shorts befit the summer months.
-
Step 4
Pack a rainproof winter coat, long underwear, sweaters, boots, socks, gloves, a scarf and a hat if you plan to be in Boston between December and March. Wear rubber-soled shoes to avoid slipping on ice and snow.
-
Step 5
Take clothes made of lightweight fabrics such as cotton and linen for summer visits, as these natural fibers will breathe in the heat. Take a few lightweight sweaters or a fleece jacket for layering over t-shirts.
-
Step 6
Bring two pairs of shoes. If one pair gets wet you won't be obligated to trudge around in sogginess.
-
Step 7
Pack a rainproof windbreaker and an umbrella for an unexpected summer shower.

on 11/22/2005 If you're going on the Freedom Trail or any of the other historical attractions, bring sneakers or comfortable walking shoes. The cobblestone streets hurt your feet!
