The expense of replacing ruined stockings adds up quickly. Here is how to fix a tiny run or hole with clear nail polish before the damage becomes irreparable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clear Nail Polish
  • Cotton Swab
  • Nail-polish Remover
  • Paper Or Tissue
  1. Step 1

Act immediately. Holes and tiny runs quickly tear apart the weave of the stocking.

  2. Step 2

If you are wearing the stockings, insert a tiny piece of paper or tissue behind the hole or run to protect your skin.

  3. Step 3

Remove excess nail polish from the brush and then dab the polish around the hole or at both ends of the run.

  4. Step 4

Remove excess polish from the stockings with nail-polish remover on a cotton swab. The polish will be visible after it dries, especially on dark-colored stockings.

  5. Step 5

Check to make sure the polish is not adhering to the paper or tissue, and then allow the polish to dry for 3 to 5 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Catch runs before they start. Inspect the toes and waistline of stockings after each wearing. Apply clear polish to weak spots or small holes.

on 8/8/2006 If there's no nail polish at hand, any type of clear glue is better than nothing!

on 1/9/2006 You can also use Tipp-Ex the same way you use nail polish to fix stockings.

on 11/22/2005 Should you not have nail polish on hand, one can use soap. Either use liquid soap or "normal" soap.

Here's what you do with liquid soap: Add a tiny drop of soap on the end of the run and gently rub it into the stocking. Once it is dry, it stops the run. For additional security, one can also add a small amount on the beginning of the run.

With normal soap, add a small drop of water onto the stocking, put the bar of soap directly on the run and rub gently, then let it dry.

Both solutions stay on until they're washed out.
