on 8/8/2006 There is an eye firming complex called Rexsol which has worked for me against the puffiness and dark circles around my eyes. I also use chopped cucumbers on my eye area, too.

on 8/8/2006 If you have irritation from Preparation H, and like topicals around your eyes, then you should not use it. But I would suggest that it's because you have sensitive skin or an allergy to it. I use it and it works for me, no issues. You must be careful of it getting into your eyes though. I find that taking a very small amount of it, and mixing it with your concealer not only reduces the puffiness but effectively conceals the dark circles. It makes the concealer look more natural and not caked around your eyes too. Drinking water is necessary to reduce fluid retention anywhere in your body, as is not consuming too much sodium.
My regimen is, wake up, wash face, use witch hazel to tighten the pores, mix the Preparation H with concealer, blend in well, mix moisturizer with foundation, smooth over whole face. It's amazing how peaches and cream your complexion will be.

on 8/8/2006 Not having enough water will tell your brain that you are dehydrated. That will cause anti diuretic hormone to be released which will cause your kidneys to allow water back into your body instead of going out with your urine. Also, if you consume too much salt, more water will be reabsorbed into your body by osmosis. That is why salty food and dehydration cause edema (swelling). Stick to lower sodium and adequate water intake. Your swelling must have been caused by something else. Having said that, there is debate about whether or not you really need eight glasses of water per day. In any case eight glasses is not excessive and won't cause water intoxication or anything like that.

on 10/1/2007 Please do not use preparation H around your eyes. As mentioned by another respondent, it will cause extreme burning and irritation of the delicate eye tissue and truthfully will not bring you the results you are looking for. You should instead use slightly cool compresses around your eye tissue and increase your water intake. Also, avoid excess alcohol as this will intensify eye puffiness.

on 8/8/2006 If your eyelid is puffy, it may actually be meibomianitis. It doesn't hurt, it doesn't actually feel like anything, but your eye just gets gradually puffier and puffier. You're completely unaware of it, really, it's so gradual.
The fix is this: a potato in the microwave for one minute, poke holes in it to prevent potato-shrapnel. Gently warm your eye for five minutes with the potato, and very gently prod it to move the fluid around. If you don't, the swelling will continue, and for some people harden into little granules. This becomes very painful when allergies flare up.
I discovered this during a routine eye exam. Really easy to fix.
