How to Join Mensa

Mensa is an international organization of people in the top 2 percent of the intelligence range. Founded in England in 1946 by barrister Roland Berrill and scientist Dr. Lance Ware, Mensa now has more than 100,000 members worldwide. Here's how to join.

      Keep in mind that testing in the top 2 percent on an accepted IQ test or standardized test is the only membership criterion.

      Visit the Mensa Web site (us.mensa.org) to get the information you'll need to complete the steps below. Alternatively, call (817) 607-0060, or (800) 66MENSA, or send a letter to American Mensa, 1229 Corporate Drive West, Arlington, TX 76006-6103.

      Find out if Mensa will accept the results of an intelligence test you've already taken. Mensa also accepts scores from approximately 200 standardized tests (such as the LSAT or GMAT).

      Order official test results from the appropriate testing company and send them to Mensa.

      Contact your nearest Mensa office to take the official Mensa test, if you haven't qualified through another test.

      Be prepared to pay annual dues if you're admitted.

    Actually, tough guy, I have an M.D. and Ph.D. from NYU in psychiatry and took the test and was accepted. I, of course, did not accept. I am well acquainted with psychometrics and the abusive manner in which they are utilized. If you are interested, acquaint yourself with Howard Gardner's work, he predicates his theories on modern educational and psychological practice.

    Although Mensa is purportedly an honor in which for someone to belong it, sadly, reinforces notions relative to intelligence and Eugenices that are better off remaining extinct. Epistemology and learning are more authentically cultivated and developed through dialogic processes and what Howard Gardner refers to as Multiple Intelligences. Mensa by virtue of its structure supports the stratification and exploitation of the surplus labor of people based on arbitrary and capricious judgements on flawed psychometrics
