These country-style ribs are delicious any time of year. Serves four.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Barbecue Grills
  • Drip Pans
  • Grill Utensils
  • Chef's Knives
  • Basting Brushes
  • Cutting Boards
  • Saucepans
  • Wooden Spoons
  • 2 tbsp. finely chopped onions
  • 1 tsp. chili powders
  • 2 tbsp. cider vinegars
  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. molasses
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauces
  • 1 minced clove garlic
  • 2 1/2 to 3 lbs. country-style porks ribs

Step1
Combine ketchup, onion, vinegar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, garlic and 1/4 c. water in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
Step2
Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat when sauce is desired thickness.
Step3
Trim fat from meat.
Step4
Arrange preheated coals around a drip pan in a grill with a cover.
Step5
Test the heat of the coals by holding your hand over the coals at the same height as where the food will be grilled. Hold your hand as long as you can in that spot. When you can only count to four (counting "one thousand one, one thousand two," etc.) the coals are ready.
Step6
Place the ribs on a grill rack over the drip pan. Cover.
Step7
Grill the ribs 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Brush occasionally with sauce during the last 10 minutes of grilling. Ribs are done when they are tender and no pink remains.
Step8
Heat the remaining sauce until bubbly. Serve it with the ribs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Because the sauce has sugar, it will burn if cooked for too long. Only add it during the last 10 minutes.

on 4/16/2007 I always cook my ribs in a crock pot with the BBQ sauce. You just throw them in with the sauce and let them cook all day on low (8-10 hours) then throw them on the grill or in the oven on med-high heat to set the sauce. The rib are fall-apart tender, so you have to be careful!

on 11/22/2005 I always pre-cook my BBQ, and then throw it on a hot grill for browning. This is a time-saver, and you can cook the food in the marinade, which will make it permeate the food more.

on 11/22/2005 Put in 1 can of beer, some garlic salt and a good pinch of Italian seasoning. Add just enough water to cover. Boil for 20 minutes, remove from pot and put ribs on the grill or bake in oven. The ribs are quite cooked so add BBQ sauce and serve when done.

on 11/22/2005 Prior to grilling your ribs (or chicken) boil them in a seafood seasoning for 10 minutes. This tenderizes and spicesup your ribs better tahn any sauce or marinade. It also decreases the time needed to grill.
