Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 3/4 c. sugars
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. butter

  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 3/4 c. sugars
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Step 2
     

    Grease and lightly flour two round 8-inch cake pans. Set aside.

  3. Step 3

    Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a small mixing bowl. Set aside.

  4. Step 4

    Beat butter (or margarine) in a large mixing bowl with a hand mixer at medium speed for 30 seconds.

  5. Step 5

    Add sugar and vanilla. Beat well.

  6. Step 6
     

    Add egg whites one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  7. Step 7
     

    Add dry flour mixture and buttermilk alternately to batter, beating on low speed after each addition, until just combined.

  8. Step 8
     

    Pour batter into prepared pans and bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

  9. Step 9

    Cool cakes in pans on wire racks 10 minutes.

  10. Step 10
     

    Remove cakes from pans and cool thoroughly on wire racks.

  11. Step 11

    Frost with desired frosting.
