How to Clean Up Oil Spills

A puddle of oil on your kitchen floor can grow bigger and even more slippery when mixed with soap and water. There's a much better way to clean up oily accidents. This remedy also works for broken eggs. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Dishwashing Liquid
  • Broom
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Dustpan
  • Paper Towels
  • Paper towels

Instructions

    • 1

      Sprinkle the puddle with a very generous amount of salt. (If you run out of salt, pour flour on the spill and mix before sweeping.)

    • 2

      Let it soak for a few minutes.

    • 3

      Sweep up the salt.

    • 4

      Clean the remaining film of oil with a few drops of dishwashing liquid and damp paper towels.

    It would seem to me if they can place a tube into the pipe to capture the oil they should also be able to stop the flow in the same manner like a doctor would use a cathitier for kidney functions . place a tube with a ballon to seal the spill and then either offload the oil or stop until they can replace with the propper pipe casing.

    I can honestly say this really works well. My dad was filtering used vegetable oil to use in the car, I was in charge when about 3 gallons spilled all over. I just dumped flour on it and shoveled it up. I did it to about half of it when my dad called and told me to try to save the oil. Oh well, at least the flour works.

    I agree. This works well. I've seen it used in a movie theater on a 2 gallon butter spill.
