1
Put a coarsely woven, homespun-looking throw with a Christmas motif over a table, chest or chair that's in the entryway. If it's a table or chest, add a simple centerpiece (pinecones or spicy potpourri in a basket, perhaps) plus candles in weathered-looking holders of brass, rusty iron or simple pewter. If it's a chair, nestle a country-style Santa, elf, snowman or other Christmas character in the seat with the throw.

2
Swag a garland of pine or holly near the ceiling of the entryway or at chair-rail height. Hook on candy canes and, using tiny threads, tie in some simple bows, tiny teddy bears, country-style Christmas ornaments and the like.

3
Arrange a holiday vignette on the floor that can be seen by just-arriving guests. An example might be a twig-reindeer sculpture beside a small Christmas tree with a patchwork-quilted skirt and packages underneath.
-
4
Hang a rustic-style wreath (perhaps grapevine decorated with corn-husk angels) or a stocking (with greenery and pinecones sticking out the top) on the interior side of the door.
-
5
Spray artificial snow around the edges of any windows.
-
6
Tie a casual pomander or simple sprig of mistletoe from the center of the ceiling or the light fixture. (See "How to Make Pomanders.")
-
7
Festoon a bit of greenery to a straw hat, walking cane or umbrella handle if you have them in view on a hall tree or hat rack.
