Enjoy a little summer with a flowerpot candle or give one to your gardening friend.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Artificial Fuzzy Honey Bees
  • Brushes
  • Raffia
  • Aleene's Instant Decoupage
  • Dried Flowers
  • Duct Tape
  • Garden Hand Tools
  • Garden Trowels
  • Gardening Gloves
  • Old Seed Packets
  • Planting Containers And Dish
  • Seeds
  • Silk Flowers
  • Scissors
  • Scissors
  • Gardening Magazines
  • Sandpaper
  • Duct Tape
  • Sandpaper
  • Seeds
  1. Step 1

    Purchase a clay flowerpot and dish.

  2. Step 2

    Place duct tape over hole in bottom of flowerpot.

  3. Step 3

    Follow instructions from "How to Make Candles" to make a candle inside your flowerpot.

  4. Step 4

    Lightly sand outside of pot and dish to remove any wax or dirt.

  5. Step 5

    Wipe with a soft rag to remove dirt.

  6. Step 6

    Seal outside of flowerpot and entire dish with a water-based sealer such as Aleene's Instant Decoupage, Glue, Sealer, and Finish.

  7. Step 7

    Cut fronts from empty seed packets.

  8. Step 8

    Attach seed packet fronts to flowerpot using a water-based decoupage glue. (Follow manufacturer's instructions.)

  9. Step 9

    Smooth cutouts with fingers, working all air bubbles from under pictures.

  10. Step 10

    Let dry.

  11. Step 11

    Apply a water-based finish decoupage over cutouts.

  12. Step 12

    Glue silk or dried flowers and a fuzzy honeybee around outside of dish.

  13. Step 13

    Arrange filled seed packets or packets of seeds from your favorite plants in dish.

  14. Step 14

    Tie gardening hand tools and a pair of gardening gloves to sides with raffia.

Tips & Warnings
  • To present your gift, place dish on top of flowerpot candle (like a lid). Tie lid to pot with raffia and attach tools and seed packets with raffia bows.
  • Use only water-based products on your flowerpot for fire safety.
  • Remove all attached decorations prior to burning your candle.
  • Do not place any cutouts or decorations inside flowerpot.

on 5/2/2008 I made this as a gift for a gardening friend and it was a HUGE hit at her party! Everyone wanted one. It wasn't hard, and it was fun to make.
