The remote control that came with your iMac can also be used with your MacBook or any other Mac with an IR infrared sensor. Click the "System Preferences" icon on the iMac and click the "Security" entry. Click the "General" tab.

Click the "Unpair" button so you can sync the controller with your MacBook.

Point the remote at the front of the MacBook and hold it about three to four inches away from the front side of the laptop's body.
