How to Repair Frames With an Angle Iron
Wooden frames can become loose over time and require repair. Repair loose wooden frames before the stress on the joints causes the wood to crack or the frame to break apart completely. You can restore your wooden frames to good condition with angle irons, which are often called corner braces. The corner braces are installed on the back side of the corner joints to reinforce the joints. Take your time and make sure the joints are perfectly aligned when you install the braces.
Things You'll Need
- Frame clamp
- Tape measure
- 4 metal corner braces, screws included
- Screw gun

1
Place the damaged frame on a work surface with the back side facing up. Press the corner joints together tightly with your hands. Place the frame in a frame clamp and tighten it.
-
2
Measure from corner to corner diagonally with a tape measure. The diagonal measurements should be equal. If they are not equal, the frame is not square. Loosen the clamp slightly and adjust the frame accordingly until the frame measures square. Check the measurements again after you tighten the clamp.
