How to Get the Audience Going During Cheerleading thumbnail
Cheerleading routines range from traditional moves to your own customized steps.

Having an excited audience during any sporting event or school pep rally will help with encouraging your team or those attending altogether, making the event more enjoyable and live. Getting the audience excited during cheerleading is possible with a few techniques, depending on the range of the cheerleaders' skills as well as the space you have available for entertaining the audience. Whether you plan to have the audience involved with the entertainment or you are coordinating a routine for the cheerleaders themselves, preparing ahead of time will ensure you are ready for the audience during the event.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk with all of the members of the cheerleading squad to discuss the entertainment and routines you have available or prepared for the event at which you are rallying.

    • 2

Create a list of possible moves and routines you can incorporate into your presentation for the audience during the event.

    • 3

Write a new cheer that is relevant to the current event you are at, and include lines that allow for audience participation. During the audience participation lines, have a couple of the squad members cheer while walking through the benches or bleachers, helping to excite the audience.

    • 4

Choose music that is upbeat and refreshing but also relevant to the event at which you are cheering. Having music playing will add to the atmosphere to help get the audience going.

    • 5

Create signs using poster board, markers and paint to encourage the audience when to cheer, clap or make noise. Show the signs during planned moments of your routine to rile up the audience while increasing the noise and overall participation.

    • 6

Throw candy, shirts or other school-spirit (and permitted) items to the audience during your cheers to increase the excitement and involvement.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have everyone on the cheer squad keep up the energy during cheers while also smiling and showing excitement yourself. Having smiles on your faces will also encourage audience participation.
