How to Install Tokyo Tyrant on a Mac

Tokyo Tyrant allows you to communicate with your Tokyo Central database management software over a network. On a Mac, you can optionally download a tarball and compile Tokyo Tyrant from the source code. However, you don't need to do that as you can get the program pre-compiled from Apple's repositories.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to developer.apple.com and download and install the latest version of Xcode. This is required to run Tokyo Central and Tokyo Tyrant, so if you already have Tokyo Central running, you can skip this. You can also get Xcode from the Mac installation DVD, but it won't be the latest version.

    • 2

Open your Mac's "Applications" folder. Double-click the "Utilities" folder. Double-click "Terminal."

    • 3

Type "sudo port install tokyocabinet tokyotyrant" and press "Enter." If you already have Tokyo Cabinet, leave it out of the command.

    • 4

Type your password and press "Enter." Your Mac downloads and install the program.
