How to Create a New Skype Port

You may run into problems connecting with Skype if the ports that the program uses have been blocked. You can use the Windows firewall to create new rules for specific programs as well as specific ports. If you have inadvertently blocked one of the outgoing ports that Skype uses to connect to its network, you will have to make a new rule in the firewall to allow it. The firewall will remember the rule from boot up to boot up, so you will only have to add it once.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and then click "Control Panel."

    • 2

Point the mouse cursor in the upper right-hand side of the Control Panel and then type "Firewall" into the search box located there.

Tips & Warnings

  • Skype also recommends opening port 80.

  • If you still have trouble connecting to Skype after opening ports, you may need to update your version of the program. Only versions .97 and above support extra ports.
