How to Make a Dog Lover's Candle

"Love me, love my dog!" If this fits a person on your gift list, make this candle and add a few doggie treats.

Things You’ll Need:

• Hobby Paintbrushes
• Raffia
• Acrylic Paints
• Dog Bones
• Dog Collars
• Dog Leashes
• Dog Tags
• Dog Treats
• Duct Tape
• Planting Containers And Dish
• Shellac

1. Purchase a clay flowerpot and dish.
2. Place duct tape over the hole in the bottom of the flowerpot.
3. Follow instructions from the related eHow "How to Make Candles" to create a candle inside your flowerpot.
4. Paint the pot with water-based acrylic paint to match the recipient's home decor. Let the paint dry completely.
5. Coat or spray small dog-bone treats with a water-based sealer. Note: This is important in disguising the smell, so your gift won't give a hungry pup any ideas.
6. Glue the dog-bone treats all over the outside of the flowerpot and dish.
7. Let the pot dry completely.
8. Fill the dish with doggie treats or toys.

Tips & Warnings

• To present your gift, place dish on top of flowerpot (like a lid). Tie the lid to the pot with raffia or a dog collar, and attach toys or treats with raffia bows.
• You can also decoupage cut-out dog pictures all over flowerpot and dish as in "How to Make a Cat Lover's Candle."
• Use only water-based products on your flowerpot for fire safety.
• Tell the recipient to remove all attached decorations such as raffia before burning the candle.
• Avoid placing any decorations inside the flowerpot or over the lip toward the inside of the pot.
• Do not let animals eat attached dog bones.
• Use nontoxic paints, sprays and glue.
