Measure the angle of bend that you wish to make in the conduit. This will depend on the physical area where the conduit is run. A sharp conduit bend will conserve space, but running wire through the conduit will be more difficult.

Measure out the conduit, taking into account the bend and the amount of straight conduit that you want to have after the bend. This will determine the degree of bend that you need in the conduit. Some manufacturers of conduit benders publish tables with their benders to make this measurement easier.

Insert the end of the conduit into the socket on the conduit bender. Place the conduit and bender on the floor so that the footrest on the end of the bender is facing upwards.

Slowly pull back on the conduit bender handle until the marker for the desired amount of degree bend is parallel with the floor.

Pull the conduit out of the bender. Check the fit of the conduit in the desired space. If needed, adjust the conduit bend or start over with a new pipe.
