How to Make Miniature Bookcases
No dollhouse or room diorama is complete without miniature bookcases. Since most real homes have bookcases, it makes sense to include them in the doll-sized versions as well. However, miniature furniture can be expensive, and only comes in so many styles. Building your own tiny bookcases saves money, reduces waste in your home and allows you to customize the pieces for your particular project. Kids creating their own dollhouses or school projects can help with the project, too. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Gather three miniature matchboxes and remove the drawers from inside them. Glue the matchbox sleeves on top of one another in a neat stack. Let the glue dry for at least two hours.
-
2
Cut across the top, bottom and sides of the stack with a utility knife, slicing the stacked sleeves into several 1/4-inch thick sections. Each of these sections is a three-shelf bookcase.

3
Measure across the top and along the sides of each bookcase. Cut a piece of craft stick for each side of each bookcase, using your utility knife to score the sticks until they separate. If your sticks have rounded ends, don't use them.

4
Glue one piece of craft stick to each side of each bookcase with white glue. Let the glue dry for at least two hours.
-
5
Paint the craft stick "veneer" with a wood stain pen. You can get these pens at craft stores; they're often called touch-up pens. Let the stain dry overnight.

Tips & Warnings
Create books by gluing together two small rectangles of craft stick and covering them with leather or paper. Use a very fine outlining pen in metallic or black to write a title and author on each book.
