How to Remove Peeling Kool Deck Paint
Although Kool Deck looks like textured paint, it is actually a thin cement coating that has a polymerized additive that makes it look like paint. It is akin to stucco in texture and applies to the surface concrete around your swimming pool in a similar manner. Things You'll Need
- 3-inch putty knife
- Hammer
- Cold chisel
- Metal wire brush

Place a 3-inch putty knife at a 45-degree angle on the deck just in front of the peeling Kool Deck coating, and then strike the handle of the knife gently with a hammer to peel the coating off the concrete. Do this with all of the Kool Deck coating that is peeling up.

Place a cold chisel at a 90-degree angle to the Kool Deck coating, and strike downward on the chisel with a hammer to break up the coating.

Place the 3-inch putty knife at a 45-degree angle on the deck just in front of the chipped Kool Deck coating, and then strike the handle of the knife gently with a hammer to scrape the coating off the concrete. Again, do this with all of the Kool Deck coating that you chipped.

Scrub the surface of the Kool Deck coating with a metal wire brush to remove the remainder of the coating from the concrete.
