How to Make an Origami Paper Flying Pig

Origami is a rewarding paper craft hobby that dates back into the ancient days of Japanese culture. Many different animals are easy to make with origami, including a flying pig that can sit on a child's nightstand or as part of an origami zoo of your own creation.

Instructions

    • 1

Start with your origami square. Fold it in half, bottom to top, and crease. Unfold and then fold right to left, making another crease.

    • 2

Unfold and turn the paper over. Now, bring all four corners to the middle of the paper, and then crease. Turn the paper over again and perform a "rabbit ear" fold: take the lower right hand edge and bring it to the vertical crease in the middle. Crease and repeat with the upper right hand edge. Unfold again. Then, pinch in the right hand corner and bring it in while following the creases you just made. Then, fold the corner down and away from you. Repeat this step for the left side.

    • 3

Turn the paper over again. It should look like a narrow diamond. Fold the four flaps out to the sides. Bring the top flap down and fold it along an imaginary line between the end points of the two open flaps on the top half. Then, bring the point of this flap back up to meet the point sticking out from the triangle you just made.

    • 4

Fold the upper right hand edge in and down to the crease beneath it. Repeat with the upper left hand edge. Turn the model over and bring the lowest point up toward the top and crease in the middle. Fold the point down again, but 1/4 inch above the first crease.

    • 5

Fold in half along the horizontal crease. Bring the two points in from the "leg" side (the side with the protruding lower triangle) in and crease. Then bring those corners up to make the wings.

    • 6

Push in the corner of the opposite side and make a "pinch" fold (push down on the crease and fold the edges together). This creates the snout. Return to the protruding triangles and push in toward the center and up to create the legs. Twist the small triangle sticking out at the back to make the tail.
