How to Make Miniature Bedspreads
You can make miniature bedspreads for a dollhouse or for a child's favorite doll or stuffed animal. Miniature bedspreads make satisfying and inexpensive projects because they can be finished fairly quickly and you can use up your fabric scraps to make them. You can make a quilt top for one side of the bedspread if you like, or you can use two solid pieces of fabric for a simpler bedspread. Either way, the recipient of the miniature bedspread will appreciate your work.

1
Measure the miniature bed for which you're making the bedspread. In addition to the length and width of the bed, add the drop to your measurements. The drop is the vertical length you want the bedspread to hang over the edge of the bed. Most bedspreads hang just past the edge of the mattress, but some bedspreads hang all the way to the floor.

2
Add half an inch to the length and half an inch to the width you came up with. These half-inch additions will cover the seam allowance. Cut the backing fabric to this measurement. Cut the batting to this measurement as well.

Create the top layer of the bedspread. If you want the bedspread to be made of one piece of fabric, cut the top piece exactly like the backing piece. You could use the backing piece as a pattern by laying it on top of your remaining fabric and cutting around it. For a patchwork bedspread, create a tiny quilt top using a pattern from the Internet or a book or by creating a pattern of your own.

4
Layer the three layers of the bedspread. First, lay the backing piece right side up on your work surface. Next, lay the bedspread top right side down on top of the backing piece. Last, lay your batting piece over both fabric pieces. Use your sewing machine or a needle and thread to sew almost all the way around the rectangle with a 1/4-inch seam, leaving a 2-inch gap for turning it right-side out. Turn the bedspread right-side out and stitch up the gap with a needle and thread.

5
Iron the seams all around the edges so they lay flat. Top stitch all the way around the rectangle with your sewing machine or a needle and thread. The top stitching helps to keep the seams in place. Add additional quilting to the bedspread by sewing through all three layers all the way across the bedspread. You can create designs with the quilting by drawing designs with chalk or pencil onto the bedspread and then stitching along them. When you've finished, hand wash the bedspread to remove the chalk or pencil lines. Lay the bedspread over the miniature bed.
