1
Set an electric shaver with height adjustments to the appropriate height for your desired level of scruff.
An alternative is to use a beard trimmer. Remove its guard, and run it over your beard. For longer or thicker hair, set the guard on its shortest setting.

2
Trim your beard in the same direction as your beard growth. That is the opposite of what you would do if you want a close shave.

3
Shave your neck with a razor and shaving cream or shaving lotion. Doing so completes the groomed appearance and accentuates the jawline. This task is not necessary if your beard is thin or patchy.
-
4
Apply a quality conditioner if you want to make your beard scruff soft.

Tips & Warnings
Your facial hair should complement your face. If you have round features, sharpen your beard scruff. If your features are sharp, then fade your beard scruff.
The beard scruff style is conducive to patchy and thin beards. Thick beards require some shaping and trimming to look groomed.
Keep your face very clean. Beard stubble can cause itchiness, and ingrown hairs can create pimples. Keeping skin clean helps to prevent both issues.
