Acrylic nails can be a great beauty tool for women who have trouble growing their nails out. Some women have slow-growing nails and others have weak nails that break easily, but both situations can be remedied with acrylic nails. Unfortunately, acrylic nails can separate from the natural nail if they aren't applied and maintained properly. This allows bacteria to begin growing between the acrylic nail and the natural nail and can lead to an infection. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Prevent Nail Separation

    • 1

Trim the natural nail short with the nail clipper before applying the acrylic nail. If the natural nail is as long as the acrylic one, it puts pressure on the edge of the nail, causing separation.

    • 2

Apply cuticle oil around the acrylic nail daily. This makes the acrylic nail flexible, which prevents separation.

    • 3

Wear rubber gloves any time you are using chemicals. The chemicals will weaken the acrylic nails and make it easier for the acrylic nail to separate from the natural nail.

    Treat Nail Separation

    • 4

Pull the acrylic nail away from the natural nail slightly and clean under it with the nail brush to remove any dirt.

    • 5

Wash the separated nail thoroughly. Be sure to get soap between the separated nails so the soap can kill any bacteria that may be under the nail. Rinse thoroughly.

    • 6

Use a small piece of cotton ball or tissue to dry between the separated nails. Allow the nails to air dry completely. Do not proceed until the area between the nails is completely dry.

    • 7

Apply a very small amount of nail glue between the acrylic and natural nails and press the acrylic nail down for a few seconds to allow the glue to set.

Tips & Warnings

  • If possible, have a professional nail technician reapply the acrylic nail to avoid risk of infection.

  • Exercise caution when using nail glue. It is like super glue and will quickly adhere to skin and any other surface it contacts.
