How to Stitch an English Daisy With Chenille
Chenille is a soft, fuzzy fiber that is used for machine and hand embroidery. The raised texture of the embroidered chenille stitching is seen on patches for school award letters, monograms and logo patches. Use chenille fiber for embroidering English daisies on decorative accessories for your home. The soft bulk of the chenille fiber will give a raised effect to the embroidered flowers. You can make pure white daisies with a yellow center using the detached chain stitch. Use white with a solid color to create an elegant flower that really pops on the fabric.

1
Cut a 1/2-inch to 1-inch circle from a piece of white felt using fabric shears. Thread the embroidery needle with a 15- to 20-inch piece of white or colored chenille thread.
-
2
Position the felt circle on the fabric where the English daisy is to be stitched. Insert the needle through the back of the fabric and up through the felt. The needle point should be halfway between the center and the outer edge of the felt circle.
-
-
3
Pull the doubled thread through the felt. Hold the thread with the thumb of your left hand. Insert the tip of the needle back into the fabric at the same point where it came out.
-
4
Push the needle through the fabric and out through about 1/8 inch past the edge of the felt. Make sure that the thread is under the end of the needle as you slowly pull the needle forward, away from the flower center. A detached chain or lazy daisy petal is formed. Make a tiny stitch at the center end of the petal to anchor it in place.
-
5
Make three more detached chain or lazy daisy stitches. Position the stitches at the top, bottom and each side similar to the 12, 6, 3 and 9 points of a clock. Add four more stitches in between the first stitches. Make eight more stitches in between the last series of stitching. Cut the thread, leaving a 1-inch tail at the back of the fabric if you are changing to a second color.
-
6
Change the thread in your needle to white if you have been using a colored fiber for the outer center.
-
7
Make four detached chain stitches, one at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions starting at the inside of the felt. The end of each stitch will be positioned at the very edge of the felt piece. Make four more petals in between the four outer center petals. Cut the thread leaving a 1-inch tail on the bottom of the fabric.
-
8
Thread a needle with yellow chenille thread. Finish the English daisy by filling the center of it with French knots.
