How to Make an Accordion File Folder
Accordion file folders contain multiple pockets that can be used for storing documents and other papers, both at home and in the office. These folders are relatively inexpensive to make, requiring only standard manila file folders and a few other crafting supplies. To add a touch of whimsy to your accordion file folders, consider customizing them with scrapbooking papers and embellishments, such as stickers, quotes, buttons, photographs and charms. These folders are appropriate for beginner crafters, or crafters looking for a project that does not require a lot of time.

1
Cut off the top edge of three or four manila file folders so they all measure 6 inches tall. Stack the folders together, lining the edges up evenly. Apply glue to the side and bottom edges of the file folders to hold them together.
-
2
Cut a strip from another file folder that measures 11-3/4 inches wide by 5 inches tall. Using a bone cutter, create a score 1 inch from the edge along the long side of the strip. This will become the flap closure for your accordion file folder.

3
Apply glue along the bottom of the score line on the flap closure. Align the score with the top back edge of the bottom file folder and press firmly to attach.
-
4
Apply a hook and loop fastener dot to the top-center edge of the top file folder, and the corresponding hook and loop fastener dot to the center of the flap closure. When folding the flap closure over, the fastener dots should line up evenly, allowing you to secure the accordion file folder closed.

5
Decorate the outside of the accordion file folder if desired. File folders can be decorated using scrapbooking papers and embellishments.
