Things You'll Need:

- Scissors
- 1 yard sturdy fabrics to match your skin's color
-
Step 1
Buy 1 yard of sturdy fabric that's about the same color as your flesh.
-
Step 2
Make a pattern by drawing a foot. A straightforward profile is easiest, but a profile with the toes pointed down is more fun and makes for a more interesting stocking. The pattern should be about 15 inches high altogether and about 5 inches wide at the ankle. Play with the pattern until you're satisfied. Make the top straight (cut it off right below the knee).
-
Step 3
Draw a seam allowance (a second outline 5/8-inch outside the first) all the way around your pattern. (If you're going with toes down, this is going to make for a very chunky, awkward-looking toe line. Don't worry about it.)
-
Step 4
Fold your fabric in half to make two layers. Pin your pattern to it and cut out your leg.
-
Step 1
Pin the leg pieces together with right sides in.
-
Step 2
Sew the pieces together using a sewing machine: Begin at one side of the top opening and, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance, sew all the way down and around the toes and back up. Sew again 1/8 inch outside the first line of stitching.
-
Step 3
Turn the top edge down twice - 1/4 inch and then 1/4 inch again - to make a narrow hem, and sew.
-
Step 4
Cut a piece of fabric 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. Fold one long edge over 1/4 inch and press; then fold in thirds lengthwise (so that the raw edge is inside); press and sew. Fold this piece in half to make a loop, and pin and sew to the top edge of the back of the leg (sew to what will be the inside after you turn the leg right side out). You can use this loop to hang your stocking on the mantel.
-
Step 5
Clip the seam at the curves. To do this, cut carefully into the seam allowance, being careful not to cut through the stitching.
-
Step 6
Turn the leg right side out.
-
Step 7
Paint the toenails. Red glitter-glue looks great.
