How to Do Indian-Style Eyebrow Threading

How to Do Indian-Style Eyebrow Threading thumbnail
Eyebrow threading is prominent in Indian culture.

Indian-style eyebrow threading is a method for shaping eyebrows that is longer lasting and just as, if not more, precise than other widely used methods including waxing and tweezing. Whereas many women find that they have to pluck their eyebrows every couple of weeks, threaded eyebrows do not grow back for three or four weeks. Threading is also beneficial in that it results in less skin irritation than often occurs with waxing and will not lead to acne breakouts since it does not involve applying harsh chemicals to the face. Originating in the Middle East, eyebrow threading is growing increasingly prominent in Western culture due to its many benefits. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the arch shape that you wish to achieve onto your eyebrows using an eyeliner pencil. This will help you determine which hairs to pluck and which to leave in place.

    • 2

Fold 2 feet of thread into a loop. Tie the ends together.

    • 3

Hold the thread with a hand on each side and twist it around about 10 times at the center, folding the loop about in half.

    • 4

Place the thumb and index finger of each hand into one of the two loops created by folding the initial loop in half.

    • 5

Slide the wound portion at the center of the string underneath the first hair you wish to remove.

    • 6

Spread open the thumb and index finger on the hand farthest from your nose while pressing the fingers on the other hand together. This will cause the wound portion at the center of the thread to move against the direction of the hair's growth, pulling it from your skin. Then, open the closed fingers on one hand while closing the open fingers on the other to slide the wound portion back to its original position.

    • 7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each hair that you wish to remove.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice on leg, upper lip or arm hair until you get the hang of pulling the hairs out with precision.

  • If you have sensitive skin, you can minimize the pain associated with pulling the hair out from its root by first numbing the area with ice.
