Search the exterior perimeter of the home and locate the outdoor A/C unit. Residential outdoor A/C units feature a squared-shape, internal fan system and small metal fins that surround the sides.

Examine the nearby wall of the home and locate the small service box connected to the A/C unit. Certain service panel models feature provisions for a small padlock; remove the padlock, if applicable.

Open the door of the service box and examine the inside. Pull-out disconnect switches will have a small metal or plastic handle attached to a square-shaped, hard plastic, removable casing. Certain fused disconnect switch models also include fuse indicator LED lights near the pull handle.
