How to Inquire if You Are Still in the Running for a Job

After a job interview, you will often have to wait for what seems like forever before knowing whether you were chosen for the position. Some people can't take the suspense and they have to confront their potential employer to see whether they have the job, or if they are at least still in the running. Many employers appreciate a follow-up "thank you" for the interview, as it reveals to them your interest. This is also a perfect time to get an idea of whether you are still under consideration.

Instructions

1. Call the person who interviewed you a few days after the meeting and thank him for the interview. Ask him when a decision will be made about who he will hire. He will then tell you if someone else was chosen or if you are still in the running.

2. Email the person who interviewed you if you think she might be too busy or will be unreceptive to your call. Thank her for the interview and then ask her when a decision will be made. She will then tell you if someone else was hired or if you are still under consideration.

3. Visit the person who interviewed you if you are on friendly terms. This is a very rare occasion, but if you know the person, a friendly hello will help you know whether you are still in the running. If you don't know him well, visiting him in person might be seen as overly aggressive.
