How to Make Popular Metal Embossed Bracelets

Use metal stamps to create an embossed metal bracelet.

Create a unique embossed metal bracelet in copper or pewter in a few easy steps. Copper metal is very malleable and a practical choice for embossing. It is commonly used for bracelets due to its natural aesthetic and suggested healing properties for those suffering from arthritis. Sheet metal is available in most craft or hobby shops, along with predesigned embossing stamps or punches. Select a metal thickness that is easy to cut with heavy-duty scissors or metal snips, such as 36 gauge or 5 mill. The bracelet can be finished with a daub of patina to add extra depth to the design.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your wrist and add 1/2 inch to the measurement.

    • 2

Cut a piece of sheet metal 2 1/2 inches wide and the length of your wrist measurement.

    • 3

Bend and curl the sharp edges back 1/4 inch using the chain-nose pliers.

    • 4

Lay the metal on your work surface and pound the curled edges flat with the mallet.

    • 5

Align the embossing punch of the first image or letter over the metal. Lay the measuring tape along the edge of the metal to help you align the punches evenly as you work.

    • 6

Hold the punch firmly and tap it twice with the mallet. Lift the punch and determine if the impression is clear. Reposition the punch and tap it with the mallet again, if necessary.

    • 7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the remaining punches to finish embossing the metal.

    • 8

Create the curve to fit around your wrist by bending the metal around the dowel using the chain-nose pliers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice using the punches and mallet with a scrap piece of metal before making the bracelet.

  • Use an embossing stylus to etch free-style designs in the metal.

  • Be careful while handling the cut sheet metal. It is very sharp.
