How to Add a Map Link to a Craigslist Posting

Offering a map link on your Craigslist ad helps potential customers find your location, which is especially important for apartment and real estate listings. Although you can add a regular text link to an offsite map, Craigslist automates this inclusion in its Housing category. By relying on Craigslist to supply the map link, you simplify the process and avoid having your ad ghosted by external links, which means that your ad is not linked from the category page.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a post on the Craigslist.org website.

    • 2

Scroll down the post creation page and look for a section that requests your "Street," "Nearest Cross Street," "City" and "State." Filling in this information automatically provides links to Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps in your ad. This section is only available for some categories, such as Housing. If your post creation page does not include this section, go to the next step.

    • 3

Browse to an online maps site, such as Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps or Mapquest. Enter your address on the map site and verify that the map is accurate.

    • 4

Click the top address bar in your browser to highlight the entire URL. Hold the "Ctrl" key and press "C" to copy the address.

    • 5

Return to the Craigslist ad creation page and click wherever you want the map link to appear.

    • 6

      Type the following code:

      View Map

Replace "URL" with the URL you copied earlier, and keep the quotation marks. To paste the URL, hold the "Ctrl" key and press "V."

    • 7

      Submit your post.
