If your Sharp TV fails to recognize an input, you may have to adjust the cables, cords or TV settings. DVD and VCR players, PCs, home theater receivers and other electronic devices all need to be tweaked a little bit differently in order for your TV to recognize them. Recognition depends mostly on the type of device and the input jack used to connect it to the TV.
Step 1
Check that the correct cable cords are used to connect the device to the TV. Use an AV cable, component video cable or audio cable to connect to "Input 1"; an AV cable, component video cable, S-Video cable or audio cable to connect to "Input 2"; a component video cable or audio cable to connect to "Input 3"; an HDMI-certified cable to connect to "Input 4" and "Input 5"; and an optical fiber cable to connect to the "Digital Audio Output" if you're connecting a home theater A/V amplifier or similar device.

Step 2
Confirm that all cable cords are securely connected to the device and to the TV. Verify that the power cords to the connected devices are securely plugged into the wall socket and that the devices are turned on.
Step 3
Check that the skip source setting is turned off. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control, then press the left or right arrow button and then select "Setup." Press the up or down arrow button, then select "Input Skip." Press "Enter" and select "No" for all of the TV's inputs with connected devices.
Step 4
Confirm that your TV recognizes devices connected to the HDMI TV inputs. Press the "Input" button on the TV control panel or remote control, then press the up or down arrow button and select the "Input4" or "Input 5" HDMI input, based on the input used by your device; repeat this step for the other HDMI input if both are used by your device.
Step 5
Select "Auto View" and "Enable." Select "Audio Select," then select "Analog" to use an audio signal by way of the R-Audio-L terminal; select "Digital" to use a signal via the HDMI terminal. Refer to your external device's manual to get the recommended signal source.
