How to Get Salon-Relaxed Hair at Home

But sometimes a person wants to relax her hair at home due to budgetary restraints or the inability to find a local hair stylist that relaxes hair. Things You'll Need

• Relaxer kit for sensitive hair (contains relaxer and neutralizing shampoo)
• Comb
• Hair clips
• Hair oil
• Shampoo
• Conditioner

Instructions

1. Comb your hair into several small sections and hold it in place with clips.

2. Apply hair oil to every area of the scalp to protect scalp skin from the relaxer's chemicals.

3. Put on plastic gloves that come with the kit. Apply relaxer to the hair using your fingers.

4. Comb the hair while the relaxer is on the hair. Start at the scalp and comb downward. Combing the relaxer-covered hair straightens the hair by loosening the curl. Carefully follow the directions on the label to know how long to leave the relaxer on the hair. The time varies with each relaxer kit. In most cases the relaxer needs 10 to 20 minutes to relax the hair.

5. Pour the neutralizing lotion on the hair after relaxing time is done. Apply the lotion as you would a shampoo. Massage the lotion into all areas of the hair from scalp to ends. The neutralizing lotion stops the relaxer chemicals from continuing to straighten the hair.

6. Rinse out the hair with warm water. Completely rinse away the relaxer and the neutralizing lotion.

7. Apply your regular shampoo to the hair and wash the hair. Shampoo twice to ensure you remove all relaxer chemicals from the hair. Rinse your hair completely with warm water.

8. Apply your regular conditioner to the hair. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse it out completely.

9. Comb through the now-relaxed hair and dry your hair as you do normally.
