How to Run a Rear PTO on a 1533 With a Backhoe
The Massey Ferguson 1533 compact tractor has an independent power take-off (PTO) that rotates at 540 rpm. A PTO is a drive shaft on a tractor used to power implements.. Engaging the electro-hydraulic PTO system on a 1533 is a simple push of a button. The 1533 is compatible with the Massey Ferguson detachable backhoe implement. The backhoe implement is PTO-driven and hydraulic-operated. The PTO powers the implement's hydraulic pump. The hydraulic system powers the boom, arm, bucket and outriggers of the implement. Control of the implement is managed with a duo-joystick system.

1
Connect the backhoe implement to the tractor. First, back the tractor up to the mounting cradle of the implement. Ease the hitch arms of the tractor between the vertical plates of the cradle as you back the tractor's PTO shaft into the PTO receiver of the implement. Slide the collar of the receiver over the PTO shaft to fasten the receiver in place.

2
Engage the PTO by pressing the yellow PTO button located on the right side of the tractor's cab next to the wheel guard. Lower the outriggers of the implement by pushing in on the outrigger levers. "In" is left for the right lever and right for the left lever. The joysticks are located on the implement's console, one on each side of the boom and arm levers. The outrigger levers are shorter than the two center levers.

3
Raise the implement with the outriggers until the eyelets of the cradle align with those of the tractor's hitch. Slide hitch pins through the eyelets of the backhoe's cradle and the hitch eyelets. Fasten the hitch pins in place with cotter pins.

4
Operate the backhoe once it is attached to the tractor. Lift the boom by pulling back on the left joystick, push forward to lower it. Press left on the left joystick to swing the boom left and right to swing it right. Pull the arm of the hoe toward the tractor and boom by pulling back on the right joystick. Push forward to move it away from the tractor. Curl -- or supinate -- the bucket attached to the boom arm by pressing left on the right joystick. Right on the right joystick pronates the bucket -- moves it away from the tractor and boom.
