How to Run a Powerglide on the Street
The Powerglide is the name given to a two-speed automatic transmission that was designed by General Motors and was most widely in use in American automobiles during the 1950s and 1960s. The Powerglide was one of the very first automatic transmissions available on the motor market and was most popular in Chevrolet and Pontiac models. Driving a car with a Powerglide automatic transmission on the street requires some basic driving fundamentals and, of course, a driver's license.

1
Get familiar with the gear shifter. Automatic gear shifters have gears -- park, reverse, neutral, drive, second gear and first gear. Use these shifting states accordingly, remembering that the second and first gears are for inclement weather conditions where you don't want your car to exceed a certain RPM and speed.
-
2
Be sure the car is in park. Press down the brake and turn the key to start the engine.
-
-
3
Move the shifter into drive or reverse to start driving.
-
4
Release the brake and the car will begin to move. Push down the gas pedal to the right of the brake and your speed will increase. The transmission will automatically change gears according to your speed.
-
5
Slow the car by lightly pressing the brake. You don't need to shift gears to slow down. When you are finished driving, put the car in park.
