How to Find Out Who Is Linking to Your Blog When They Are Hiding Backlinks

Links from other sites, or backlinks, are important because they drive traffic to your blog, and they influence search engine rankings. Search sites such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing analyze backlinks to determine the quality and relevancy of your blog. The more backlinks a site has from quality sources, the greater advantage it is has in obtaining a good rank for keyword searches. Some blogs have thousands of backlinks, so it is hard to find out which sites link to yours.

      Search for "link:yourwebsite.com" on Google to view links to your blog on other sites. This is a quick way to see which sites are linking to you, but only shows a limited number of backlinks.

      Use Google Webmaster Tools to view a complete list of backlinks. You will need to sign up for a free Google account if you do not already have one. Log in and click "Add a site" to add your blog. Type your site's URL and press "Continue." Verify ownership using of one of the four methods Google provides. After your site is setup, select it from the main page and click "Links to your site." You will see a list detailing the sites linking to your blog, as well as a total count of how many times each site links to you.

      Use a Web-based backlink checker, such as Backlink Watch, to view your backlinks. Backlink Watch is convenient because it does not require registration and displays a list of all links pointing to your site, but it limits results to 1,000 links. Open the website, enter your blog URL and click "Check Backlinks" to view links. The results take several minutes to load.
