How to Format Photos in PowerPoint thumbnail
PowerPoint makes it easy to add and edit pictures in your presentation.

Microsoft PowerPoint is a powerful program with plenty of features and customization that let you put together a quality presentation. In addition to the various media it has available as ClipArt, you can place your own photographs in your presentations. After putting in an image, you may realize that it requires some adjustments. Fortunately, PowerPoint comes with plenty of formatting features built in, so you can add borders, crop the image, apply effects and more without using a separate image-editing program.

Instructions

    • 1

Open PowerPoint and your PowerPoint presentation.

    • 2

Select the slide with the photo from the navigation pane on the left, and then click on the photo. The "Picture" section will appear at the top of the window with the "Format" tab underneath it. Everything you need to work on your photo is in the "Format" tab.

    • 3

Rotate the photo if it's facing the wrong direction. Click and hold down the mouse button on the rotation handle, which is the green circle above the image. As you drag the circle to the left or right around the image, the image will rotate in relation to it. If you want to make sure you line up the rotation correctly, hold the "shift" button down, which will make the photo jump to every 15 degrees of rotation as you move it.

    • 4

Adjust the appearance of the picture itself, if necessary. Click the "Corrections" option in the "Adjust" group to view changes you can make to the picture. A number of thumbnails appear with different adjustments indicated to brightness and contrast; hover your mouse over one to see what that effect will look like for your photo. Click the one you prefer to apply it.

    • 5

Select a style to apply to the photo, if you want. Hover your mouse over the various options in the "Picture Styles" group to see what they will look like. You have options to add borders, use various effects on the photo's edges and more. Click the one you want to apply it.

    • 6

Change the shape of the picture, if you prefer. Click the drop-down arrow below "Crop" in the "Size" group. Select "Crop" to simply crop the picture to a rectangular shape, or select "Crop to Shape" to crop it to a more unusual shape, like a circle or triangle. You can make adjustments to the crop by clicking and dragging the edges of the section.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you decide that you don't like the changes you made to a picture, use the "Reset Picture" button in the "Adjust" group to revert it to its original settings.
