How to Have an Android & a Mac

Apple designed the Mac to be able to recognize and sync up with its own products, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod. If you have a different type of phone -- such as an Android -- syncing up is more difficult. Fortunately, the Android uses Google-based software such as Gmail. To sync your Android contacts and calendar with your Mac contacts and calendar, you will need to launch various programs on your Mac and change the preferences so they sync with Google.

Instructions

  1. Sync Contacts

    • 1

Open your Address book in your Mac.

    • 2

      Click "Preferences," then click "Accounts."

    • 3

Check the "Synchronize with Google" box. You will notice a small sync icon up top in your Mac's menu bar. Click it, then click "Sync Now" to sync your Android's Google contacts with your Mac's contacts.

    Sync Calendars

    • 4

      Launch iCal, then click "Preferences."

    • 5

Click "Accounts," then click the plus (+) sign.

    • 6

Type in your Gmail email address and password.

    • 7

Click "Create," and your Mac will sync all of the calendar information with your Android.
