How to Troubleshoot OpenFire Spark

OpenFire Spark is an open source, multiple platform, instant messenger (IM) application. The program is optimized for business use. It includes various features, including group chat and telephony integration capability, among others. The application also includes security enhancements that help ensure privacy between IM chat participants. When you have problems running the program, you can troubleshoot it using various methods. Most problems can be resolved by upgrading your application version.

      Make sure you have the correct server address, username and password. Obtain the appropriate settings from your server's administrator. At a minimum, you need the server's address. Launch Spark by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "Spark." Enter this data in the appropriate fields and click "Login."

      Create a new account if your server address is correct, yet you cannot login. Click "Accounts" on the program's home screen. Enter a new username and password. Enter the server's address in the field listed "Server." Click "Create Account" to create the account.

      Upgrade to the latest version of Spark if you are unable to login or otherwise cannot use the program. When recognized application errors are found by Spark's developers, a new version of the application becomes available for download. Select "Windows" and click on the appropriate download file. The download file ends in ".exe".

      Restart your computer after the installation is complete. Click "Start," select the button next to "Shut Down" and click "Restart."

      Launch Spark. Click "Start," "All Programs" and click "Spark." Enter the username, password and server address. Click "Login" to being a new IM session.
