How to Crochet a Round Shawl

How to Crochet a Round Shawl thumbnail
Crocheting a round shawl is an ideal project for novices.

Crocheting a round shawl is very simple for anyone with basic crocheting skills. Only the chain (ch) and single crochet (sc) stitches are necessary. With this basic knowledge, make a shawl that will look chic for the fall and winter seasons. For the most current look, choose yarn colors that echo those that are on-trend for the fashion season. A more luxurious look is obtained with yarns that are all natural, so avoid acrylics or polyester blends.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width around your shoulders.

    • 2

Create a series of chain stitches that are the same length as your measurement. This will create your chain, which is the base of your shawl.

    • 3

Connect the two ends of the chain by inserting your crochet hook through the first loop of the chain, wrapping yarn once around the hook and pulling the yarn through the loop.

    • 4

Create 1 sc stitch in the next loop in the chain. This will be the loop to the left of the last loop if you are right handed and the next loop to the right if you are left handed.

    • 5

Continue to make sc stitches until your shawl is 6 inches wide. Normally, you would stop at the end of a row and start another row, but since this is a circular shawl, simply keep crocheting in circles until you get to the desired width of 6 inches.

    • 6

Finish the last stitch by tying the loop in a knot with the yarn tail. Snip the yarn coming from the knot with your scissors.

Tips & Warnings
